Randy Shannon, the former head coach at Miami, has been promoted to co-defensive coordinators and linebackers coach at Florida State.

Shannon was an off-field player for FSU in the 2021 season. He was the defensive coach at UCF for two years and has also worked for Miami and Florida.

Shannon was the head coach of the Hurricanes from 2007 to 2010 and went 28-22. He was an assistant coach for two title teams at Miami in 1991 and 2001 and was the nation's top assistant coach in 2001. Shannon spent 20 seasons as a coach at his alma mater.

He has displayed his insight, passion and integrity since he arrived at Florida State last spring, and his experience as a head coach brings valued perspective, according to Norvell. The current and future student-athletes will develop on and off the field through his football knowledge, teaching ability and focus on individual personal growth. Coach Shannon's relationships and excellent reputation within the state of Florida, and especially South Florida, will help our program climb back toward the top of college football.

Chris Marve left to become defensive coach at Virginia Tech.
