The UFC's lightweight division has moved on from their former teammate, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The UFC crowned a new undisputed champion in May, after more than a year since the retirement of Nurmagomedov. There is no indication that Nurmagomedov will ever return to work. The division has moved on to an extent.

The 155-pound division has not moved into a new chapter. There is still a chance to tie up. And that involves a person namedDustin Poirier.

The final UFC pay-per-view will feature two title fights. The UFC lightweight title is on the line when Charles Oliveira defends againstDustin Poirier, and the women's bantamweight title is on the line when Amanda Nunes defends againstJulianna Pena.

It was almost universally agreed that Poirier was the best lightweight in the world when it became clear that Nurmagomedov was leaving the sport. He has 20 wins inside the UFC. He has lost only one fight in the past nine fights.

The UFC acknowledged the position of Poirier in the division when it offered him a choice between a lightweight title fight and a trilogy match against the Irishman. The UFC moved on with a title bout between Oliveira and Michael Chandler after Poirier chose to take the July money fight first.

In impressive fashion, he won. He has a winning streak of nine. He is not the best yet. That is still Poirier.

Saturday's UFC 269 main event title fight is related. The men have something in common. He has never been an undisputed UFC champion. He has failed to check off one box in his career. The status is not for Oliveira, he has the hardware. His road to "best lightweight in the world" goes through Poirier.

The co-main event is a championship bout. The bantamweight title will be defended by two-division champ Amanda Nunes. Much of the focus is on the headline bout, as Nunes is a huge favorite.

There is no title belt around Poirier's waist, so the fight is not being promoted as "Champ vs. Champ." The reality is that there is a need for one there. In the history of the UFC, no title fight has featured two men with a combined 39 wins and 30 finishes.

It is a new era at lightweight. The era has begun. It would be an insult to say it hasn't. To say that a new era is underway would be an insult. This division needs to allow Poirier to speak.

The winner is...

Sayif Saud is the coach at Fortis MMA. When he took downDustin, he controlled him. Tony Ferguson was destroyed on the ground by Oliveira, and no one had done that before. You can't take that away from him. If it turns out that Oliveira can takeDustin down, then he will have a lot of chances to win.

The UFC's bantamweight andfeatherweight champion is not afraid to knock out her opponent.

The numbers show Pea vs. Nunes.

On fight night, it will have been since July 9, 2016 when Nunes won the bantamweight championship. That is the longest title reign in UFC history.

.933 is the UFC winning percentage for Nunes, who is 14-1 inside the Octagon with an active 12-fight winning streak. Kamaru Usman and Anderson Silva are the only two fighters with a better winning percentage through 15 UFC fights.

Only four fighters hold two UFC Championships at the same time, and one of them is the winner of the title fight. With a victory at UFC 269, Nunes would join Silva, Jon Jones, St-Pierre and Demetrious Johnson as the only fighters to win 10 title fights.

Pea has the second-highest takedown accuracy percentage among active women's bantamweights.

The winner is...

"It's 1A and 1B when you talk about the best female fighters in the world right now: Nunes and Shevchenko," said Eric Nicksick. "I think she can do whatever she wants in this fight." Pea's best attributes are on the ground when she gets topside. The fight needs to be on the feet. Keep moving and use the angles to get Pea to miss and then attack on an angle.

Defending champion.

Ian's bet was the best.

Pedro Munhoz has gone to a decision in each of his past four fights. Cruz has had four of his past five fights go the distance and I don't think the result will be different against him. Cruz doesn't have a ton of power but he is very difficult to put away and he is a high-volume forward. Munhoz used calf kicks to slow Cruz down and then landed the more damaging shots to win the game. If Munhoz can get the fight to the ground, he will have an advantage. It will go to the judges. Fight goes the distance.
