A former FedEx driver accused of dumping hundred of packages in an Alabama ravine will face charges of cargo theft, officials say

A former delivery driver is facing charges after he was accused of dumping hundreds of FedEx packages in an Alabama ravine.
Deandre Rayshaun Charleston is a Class D felony for five cargo theft charges. He was expected to be taken into custody after he finished his work shift.
Insider's Heather Schlitz reported last month that Charleston dumped at least 450 packages into a ravine.
FedEx dispatched drivers to clean up the scene after the packages were found in a ravine on private property. The guys came from all over the country to work. The sheriff's office thanked the guys for clearing up the mess.
The driver was cooperative with the officers.
Moon said at the news conference that he was very sorrowful for what he had done, and just admitted that he had had some hard times in his life.

Moon said that Charleston had a death in the family that made him make bad choices.

FedEx didn't reply immediately to Insider's request for comment. The driver was fired from FedEx after the initial reports of the dumped packages.
There were over 200 packages that were unidentifiable due to missing barcodes or addresses. He said that the goods were worth around $24,700.

There are a lot of people who want to throw this guy away, throw away the key, and never give him hope of a life. That's not what I intended.
There are at least 20 FedEx packages that have been abandoned in Alabama, and a dozen Amazon packages that have been dumped in a neighborhood.
