The football coach at the school has a new contract.

In a news release, BYU called Sitake's new deal "unprecedented". Sitake is 48-28 in six seasons at the school, which went 10-2 this season. The Independence Bowl will feature the Cougars against the UAB.

Sources say that Sitake spoke with Oregon about its head-coaching position.

"In recent days and weeks there has been a lot of movement among college football head coaches," said the athletic director. I'm happy to know that Kalani will continue to be our leader, coach and mentor. In the past 50 years, there have only been four head football coaches in the area. Consistency, creativity and culture have been hallmarks. The football team culture will be strengthened by the emphasis of 'love and learning' by Kalani. I'm thankful for the Sitake family's commitment to the school.

For the first time since 2008 and 2009, Sitake has guided the team to 10 or more wins. Sitake has won more games since the start of last season than any other coach.

The Big 12 will have a new member in 2023.

Sitake, a former player and fan of the school, was named the head coach. I am blessed to lead a football program full of great young men, outstanding coaches and staff and the best fans in the world. We are excited about the opportunities ahead as we prepare to enter the Big 12.
