The House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot issued six more subpoenas Friday for affiliates of former President Donald Trump who it said helped to stage rallies on January 5 and 6 or communicated with Trump about the Ellipse rally that preceded the Capitol attack.
The Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol will be in Washington on July 27, 2021. The law enforcement members testified about the attack on the Capitol. 140 police officers were injured when they were trampled, had objects thrown at them, and sprayed with chemical irritants during the insurrection, according to authorities. Subpoenas were issued to Robert Peede Jr. and Max Miller, who the committee said met with Trump on January 4 to discuss the "Save America" rally at the Ellipse that took place on January 6.
Brian Jack was subpoenaed for communications he had with members of Congress on behalf of Trump.
Bryan Lewis, a former Fox News executive, was subpoenaed by the committee.
Ed Martin was subpoenaed for his involvement in the Stop the Steal rally that took place before the Capitol attack.
The head of the organization "Moms for America" was subpoenaed for her involvement in the January 5 rally at Freedom Plaza.
In October, Trump's lawyer told those subpoenaed to refuse to testify. Since it began its investigation, it has issued more than 50 subpoenas. A federal appeals court upheld a lower court decision denying Trump's request to block the committee's acquisition of documents pertaining to the January 6 attack. On Wednesday, Trump's former chief of staff MarkMeadows sued the committee after it threatened to hold him in contempt for denying the subpoenas, withMeadows claiming executive privilege as his defense for withholding documents and refusing to appear before the committee. The trial for Steve Bannon, who was an advisor to Trump, will begin on July 18th, after he was indicted for two counts of criminal contempt for refusing to submit documents and appear before the committee. Jeffrey Clark should be held in contempt for his refusal to cooperate.
Miller is challenging Anthony Gonzalez, who was one of 10 House Republicans to vote to impeach Trump. Miller has been endorsed by Trump.
