Culley said on Friday that the Texans will use quarterback Davis Mills for the rest of the season.
Tyrod Taylor was benched in the third quarter of Houston's Week 13 loss to the Colts and replaced by Mills.
Culley said before the Texans hosted the Seattle Seahawks that he felt like Mills gave them the best chance to win.
It wasn't long ago that Culley was saying that about Taylor, who was the clear starter for the Texans going into the season. Taylor injured his left leg in the first game of the season against the Cleveland Browns. Mills went 0-6 in his six starts.
Since his return from injured reserve, Taylor has thrown five picks and taken 12 sacks. Culley said that he decided to name Mills the starter for the rest of the year because he had seen the last three games.
Culley said that it had nothing to do with Tyrod not being ready to play. We feel like that's the best thing that can give us the chance to win.
Before Mills replaced Taylor against the Colts, he completed five of 13 passes for 45 yards. Taylor has completed 60.7% of his passes this season, with five touchdown and five interceptions.
Culley told Taylor that Mills would be the starter. I wouldn't have liked it, but this is a production business. It starts at the position. We needed a spark. We needed a change. We made a change.
