Capital One Venture X Offers Huge Value At Low(ish) Price

Capital One Venture X rewards credit card.

Capital One Venture X is a premium version of the product. I am amazed at how much they include at the price point.

This card is going to be a strong card to consider for travel rewards fans, and it hits high marks for many reasons, including a big initial bonus, strong earning for your spend, and great benefits.

Capital One is rumored to be coming out with a Visa Infinite premium card in travel. I am glad they took the time to get it right and to align with the opening of their own airport lounge network and the launch of their new travel portal.

I am very excited about this card. I received an approval after applying. Several readers have told me that they received similar approvals as well. They shared the same credit line news.

Capital One Venture has an initial bonus.

For a limited time, Capital One Venture X is also offering up to $200 in statement credits for vacation rentals, and 100,000 bonus miles after spending $10,000 in the first 6 months.

You have six months to meet the requirement and the reward is generous. You can earn money on the card's benefits fairly easily if you use the statement credit at the beginning.

There is an annual fee.

The Capital One Venture X has an annual fee. That is a great price for a premium travel card. They clearly made a conscious decision to pack a lot of value into their card and charge less than American Express, Chase, or Citibank.

Even without statement credits, the card should be easy to use even with an initial bonus offer worth well over $1500, and they have set up benefits that make the card pay for itself quite easily. Read on.

You can earn for your spend.

The card can be used for hotels, rental cars, flights and purchases at Capital One Travel.

The Capital One travel site is quite good. I would book air and rental car here for the best rates. Booking hotels means giving up hotel loyalty points, credit towards earning elite status, and elite status benefits, so I would only do that if you are booking outside of your preferred chain.

Capital One has the only consumer cards that give you 2x earning on everything and can be used to redeem other points. Capital One Venture X is a good single card solution for a lot of people.

Capital One has a travel portal where you can redeem points for paid travel, but you don't have to do that in order to use them. Transferring to other loyalty programs is my favorite use.

Capital One miles are now transfer to another company.

Air Canada Aeroplan, Singapore Airlines Krisflyer, Turkish Airlines, and Avianca LifeMiles are part of the Star Alliance.

British Airways Executive Club, Finnair Plus, and Qantas Frequent Flyer are part of oneworld.

Air France, Flying Blue, Aeromexico Club are part of the SkyTeam.

Non-alliance: Skywards.

Hotels with Wyndham rewards.

Capital One miles can be transferred into EVA Air. They transfer 2-to-1 into all Accor Live Limitless.

I like that they allow transfers in 100 mile intervals, rather than 1000 mile intervals, since I often find after a transfer I have more miles in an account. I would rather not waste that extra 1000 miles. Capital One does something for customers that other issuers do not.

Air Canada, Air France, Avianca, British Airways, and the like are some of the airlines you will most likely use for points transfers.

Capital One Venture X Statement credits and anniversary bonus.

There is a limited time $200 statement credit offer for spend on vacation rentals as part of the initial bonus, and on an ongoing basis.

Capital One Travel has up to $300 credit per year for booking airline tickets.

Every account anniversary, there is a bonus of 10,000 bonus miles.

Up to $100 in statement credits every 4 years for either the TSA PreCheck or Global Entry.

The $300 travel credit and 10,000 bonus miles are enough to cover the card's annual fee.

The Capital One Venture X card gives you unlimited access to the Capital One airport lounges. Anyone can access the Capital One airport lounges for $65 per visit, but Venture and Spark Miles card holders will receive two complimentary visits to the Capital One airport lounges each year.

The card comes with Priority Pass Select, which is similar to Capital One's approach of "simplicity", and there are no exclusions for American Express-supplied Priority Pass cards.

The Capital One Venture X card gives you up to 4 no annual fee authorized users and lounge access, along with cell phone protection. Each authorized user gets a Priority Pass Select card, and they can bring up to 2 guests to the Capital One airport lounges.

Capital One Venture has additional benefits.

The Capital One Venture X card has additional premium benefits.

The card comes with complimentary President's Circle status, which is their top public tier, and it also comes with some United elites being unhappy about losing Hertz status. This benefit is for people who use their cards. Capital One has additional benefits with car rental companies.

There are a number of car rental protection options, including lost luggage reimbursement, trip delay, cancellation/interruption reimbursement, cell phone protection, and extended warranty protection.

Cardmembers can earn up to 100,000 miles per year for referring friends, and up to 4 referrals per year.

How can it make sense to offer this to customers?

The premium travel rewards credit card space has been so crowded and expensive that there are only two options: do something really niche, so you can provide value to a small number of cardmembers, or

Chase said that rewards were nine-figures more expensive than they had modeled. They were attracting a very affluent demographic. They spent a lot of money, and kept spending even more, and had mostly just interchange to cover their costs.

If you want to take on a product like that head-on, it seemed like you would have to spend more money and play less.

Capital One has come up with a model that offers a lot of valuable points up front, continues offering valuable benefits to cardmembers going forward, and does this at an even lower annual fee than competitors. The new Capital One Venture X is a great new option for consumers, but I don't know if that can make any money for the issuer.

The Points Guy gave out an award for the best new credit card. I think the new Capital One Venture X is a good choice. The way they dismiss the best competition is interesting.

The Capital One Venture X rewards credit card is the most exciting new premium rewards card of the last couple of years. It has a huge up front bonus offer, strong points-earning, airport lounge access and a host of premium benefits. Here are the things I do.

Who was the better ball player, Ted Williams or Mickey Mantle? We can get pretty close, but we may not be able to say for certain, but the thinking process can help you figure out which program is right for you.
