Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta calls for clarity over Covid-related postponements

Four points off the top four, that's how far away from the lead they are.

Mikel Arteta is the manager of the club and he wants more clarity from the league.

Despite a number of cases among the players, the opening game went ahead.

Arteta was asked if the rules were too vague.

"That would be really, really helpful if the league adopted Uefa's rules, which give a clear number of Covid cases to determine whether a game goes ahead as planned," Arteta said.

The English top flight has no out and out threshold for the number of positive cases which would cause a game to be called off.

Spurs contacted the league to request a rearranged match before their game against Brighton and a meeting of the league board took place on Thursday.

The club's first-team training centre was closed on Wednesday and the match against Rennes was postponed a day later after eight players and five members of staff tested positive.

It is thought that the team did not request a postponement before their 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Bees.

I think the decision has to be made to protect the environment. Arteta said this was the first thing for him.

We need to maintain certain criteria so that the clubs that are competing can all compete in the same conditions. Health is the most important thing for me.

It's about the decision making that goes the same way for everyone, that's what we have to hope for.

If there are certain things that you don't meet, then the game is off, and if you do, the game is on. We all know that it's a fair competition.

Dean Smith says that his team face an anxious wait for test results before their match against Manchester United on Saturday, while fellow premier league sideLeicester City had a number of Covid-related absences for their defeat at Napoli on Thursday.
