In Texas, which has among the lowest gas prices, the average price that week was just under $2 in Houston.

In some states, there were individual stations that were selling gas for less than $2 a gallon, but there were also stations that were selling gas for more than $5 a gallon. Trump would be engaging in extreme cherry-picking by highlighting an unrepresentative price as typical as he was leaving the White House.

The president has limited control over the weekly and monthly changes in gasoline prices. Global supply and demand are the main factors that affect gas prices.

The coronaviruses epidemic played a major role under both presidents. The lowest prices under Trump came when demand was low, while the highest prices under Biden came when demand was high.
