Lucas Digne: Everton boss Rafael Benitez says defender must put team first after being dropped

Digne trained on Friday, but he wasn't told if he'd be back for Sunday's trip to Crystal Palace.

Lucas Digne was dropped for Monday's win over Arsenal after being told by his manager to put the team before himself.

Digne was not in the starting lineup for the game against the Gunners, despite reports of a fall-out with the manager.

The Frenchman, 28, was not decided on for Sunday's trip to Crystal Palace.

The manager makes the decision, said Benitez.

The Spaniard said that he had been training. We will see tomorrow if he is available or not, it is a normal situation with the player training.

Digne is the only recognised left-back for the Toffees and he was on the bench for the game against the north London club.

"We need all the players around because that increases the competition, but at the same time everyone has to be focused and realise the priority has to be the team," said the manager.

He has to make sure that he continues to work hard and that the team is ahead of him.

With uncertainty over Digne's involvement at Selhurst Park, the left-hand side of the defence may be filled in by Godfrey.

After his boot came into contact with Takehiro Tomiyasu, the VAR checked for a red card, but he was praised for his performance against a dangerous player.

The boss said it was very good.

He was one of the key points for us. Everyone knows how dangerous Saka is, he was controlling him well.
