Grambling State hires ex-NFL head coach Hue Jackson to lead football program

Jackson was named the head coach at Grambling State.

Jackson was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2016 to 2018. He was the coach of the Raiders in 2011.

He was the offensive coach at Tennessee State.

Jackson has been a coach for more than three decades. Jackson spent 14 seasons as a college assistant, including nine seasons at Arizona State, California and USC, before he transitioned into the NFL.

He is the latest in a long line of prominent NFL figures coaching at historically black colleges.

Deion Sanders was named the SWAC Coach of the Year last month, after he was hired at Jackson State in 2020. Eddie George was hired at Tennessee State.

Broderick Fobbs, a former Grambling running back, was fired in November.

Fobbs won the SWAC titles in 2016 and 2017. He was fired after going 3-7 in the fall after going 0-4 in the spring.
