Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle to miss multiple games after positive COVID-19 test

The Pacers announced Friday that coach Rick Carlisle will miss multiple games after returning a positive test for COVID-19.

The positive test will cause him to miss his first game against the Dallas Mavericks, the team he coached for 13 seasons before resigning this past offseason.

Lloyd Pierce will act as head coach. The Pacers will play the Golden State Warriors on Monday. Next week they have three games.

Sources told Tim MacMahon that the NBA's health and safety protocols were entered by Carlisle after he had a positive result on a rapid test. The Pacers canceled practice because of an abundance of caution.

A source said Thursday that Carlisle, who has received a booster shot, was experiencing "mild symptoms."

The Pacers have made three playoff appearances in four seasons under the leadership of Carlisle, who is in his second stint with the team.
