Mikel Arteta: Arsenal need to take more risks to get back to winning ways

Mikel Arteta wants the side to take more risks in front of goal in order to arrest the slump.

A win at home to Saints on Saturday is needed to keep their top-four hopes alive, after two defeats in a row.

The side is sitting in the bottom half of the table in terms of goals scored and chances created, and the boss seems to be struggling to get the best out of his forwards.

He thinks the shoulder of responsibility should not be solely on the two strikers but on the whole team.

Arteta said that the players need to take more risks and put the ball in the box more.

We have to have more players in the box to take and score the big chances.

It's always a combination of the individual, the collective and the team when it comes to creating chances.

We need to increase the level of performances and close the game out when we have a good level of performance. We need more consistency.

Gary believes that something is going on between Mikel Arteta and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the captain started on the bench for their defeat against the Toffees.

There's nothing personal with Auba.

The boss of the club also said his position with the player.

The captain came off the bench in the 85th minute to score his first goal of the season to extend his run without a goal to six games.

Arteta said that he has a good relationship with his players and that he only does the best for the club and the team.

When a player is not scoring it affects mood, confidence and belief, but you have to try not to accept it and feel sorry for yourself.

"It's all about patches and moments and when you are in good form and hitting the goals then trying to maintain it as long as possible while also trying to reduce the time when they aren't in good form."

Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports that he wanted more from his team. The players aren't the only ones who are not performing well right now and that's what the manager offered after Monday's loss.

Arteta has lost three times in four games. Jamie Carragher said it was a worrying sign how they lost. This was the second game in a row in which the Gunners surrendered a lead.

Their 10-game winning streak has been lost at a time when rivals are winning. Two clubs who were in crisis as recently as a few weeks ago are now in seventh place.

It would be difficult to call the current situation a crisis. They are four points behind West Ham, who they face next week. They will still be challenging for the top four even if they win the next home game.

It is concerning that Arteta did not help himself with some of the decisions which contributed to their latest defeat.
