Sequoia National Park’s Giant Forest to reopen December 11

The General Sherman tree is one of the largest trees in the world and draws visitors from all over the world. The world's largest living tree is General Sherman, which is more than 250 feet tall.

The US National Park Service and US Forest Service personnel unwrap the General Sherman during the KNP Complex Fire.

The foothills portion of Sequoia National Park reopened to the public on November 11 after the wildfires were contained.
Clay Jordan said that they have been working hard to restore access to the Giant Forest as quickly as possible, and thanked everyone for their patience and flexibility.

Parts of the park are closed along with limited access to Giant Forest. Vehicles are not allowed on Moro Rock and Crescent Meadow roads. Lodgepole and the road connecting Kings Canyon Park are still closed. The parts of the park that are not expected to reopen before the spring of 2022, according to the park.

The park will open the forest in December and January.

There is a fee-free day on December 12.

Friday, December 24 to Monday, January 3, 2022.

The park will evaluate after the holidays if it needs to limit the number of days Giant Forest is accessible.
The Giant Forest Museum will be open to the public, but there will be no food or water. Pack your snacks and water with you, as always, and make sure you take along any other items you might need.

The first weekend of reopening is expected to be cold. All vehicles must have tire chains in the chain control areas.
The park could close Generals Highway in the event of rock or debris falling or severe weather. Before you visit the park, make sure to check the conditions.
