The great Elon Musk Tesla share sell-off may not be what it seems

Over the past month, Musk has sold nearly $12 billion worth of shares in the electric-car maker.

The billionaire sold another 934,091 shares of the company for $963 million to pay taxes on the exercise of stock options, according to US securities filings.

Since November 8, he has sold and acquired a total of over 12 million shares.
He has done a lot of transactions.

How much did Musk make?

Musk said on November 6 that he would sell 10% of his stake. He owned a combination of about 243 million shares through his trust and stock options, which increased his stake in the company to 23% as of June 30. His trust held 170 million shares.

The message was vague. Musk did not say if he intended to sell 10% of the shares he indirectly owned through the trust or if his stock options were part of the deal.

Musk has an option to buy 10 million more shares at $6.24 each, which expires in August next year, after the latest transactions on Thursday.
