Despite the challenges of the Pandemic, canned cooked meat sales have hit a record high for the seventh year in a row.

Hormel, the company that makes the famous brand, achieved a sales record in the three months to the end of October.

The firm's boss said it will expand its range of products next year.

Hormel's shares increased in New York.

Jim Snee, Hormel's chief executive, said on the conference call that the Spam brand had delivered its seventh consecutive year of record growth.

The expansion of the Spam family of products is scheduled to be operational in 2023.

Hormel's sales increased by 19% for the year as a whole, thanks to the takeover of the Planters peanut brand.

The company was facing supply chain issues during the coronaviruses epidemic.

Hormel signed a new five-year contract for pork to help limit the impact of supply issues in the future.

Outside the US, there is a large international market for Spam.

Since 1937, it has been a household name in Hawaii.

It can be found on the menu as a sushi-like dish, as well as the popular breakfast of Spam, eggs, and rice.

During the Korean War, it was introduced by the US army.

One of the country's favourite dishes is budae jjigae, or army stew, and it is made with the staple ingredient, Spam.

Tins of Spam are given as gifts for the lunar new year, sometimes presented in gift-boxes as part of special promotion for the holiday.

Hormel is based in the US state of Minnesota.

Natural Choice and Applegate meat products, Skippy peanut butter, and Spam are some of its brands.
