The college football player of the year was named the winner of the Maxwell Award on Thursday night, which may have been a preview of Saturday's ceremony.

Young beat out Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett and Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III for the award. Young was the winner of the O'Brien Award, given to the nation's best quarterback, beating out Ohio State's C.J. Stroud.

In 13 games, Young posted 4,322 passing yards, 43 touchdown, and just four interceptions, leading Alabama to a 12-1 record, and the No. 1 ranking in the College Football Playoff.

The Outland Trophy was won by Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis, who also took home the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is given to the nation's most outstanding defensive player.

Davis is the third player to win the Outland and Bednarik awards in the same season.

The Home Depot Coach of the Year and Jim Thorpe Award were both won by Cincinnati's Coby Bryant and head coachluke Fickell.

Kenneth Walker III was the first Michigan State running back to win the Doak Walker award. Walker's best performance of the season was against Michigan, when he ran for 197 yards and five touchdown in a 37-33 victory in East Lansing.

The first player in the FBS to catch more than one pass for 1,479 yards and 17 receiving touchdown was Pitt wide receiver Jordan Addison.

The Rimington Award went to Iowa's Tyler Linderbaum, who lost to Alabama's Landon Dickerson last year, while the Ray Guy Award went to Matt Araiza of San Diego State.
