Jussie Smollett Found Guilty in Hoax Hate Crime

The jury found Jussie guilty of lying to Chicago cops about being the victim of a racist and homophobic attack.

The "Empire" actor stood stone-faced in court as the verdicts were read, after he was found guilty of 5 of the 6 felony counts against him. Jussie was facing disorderly conduct charges for allegedly making a false report to the police.

The first 5 counts were for lying to the cops. He was found not guilty on the 6th, but he was going to be interviewed by the Chicago Police Department on the 14th.

The criminal side of the saga is over. Jussie had maintained his innocence for a long time, and insisted that he did not hire the Osundairo brothers to stage the racist and homophobic attack in the middle of a bitterly frigid Chicago night.

The brothers were in the overflow room in the Chicago courthouse.

The city of Chicago says it dropped on investigating the hoax attack because of the $130k Jussie's been found guilty of.

Criminal defendants rarely testify during trials, so defense attorneys took the calculated risk of having Jussie testify. He told his story while on the stand, saying he went out to buy eggs at 2 AM because the Osundairo brothers were threatening him.

His testimony was meant to poke holes in the Osundairos' credibility. He detailed sexual encounters he claims to have had with Bola.

The brothers testified that Jussie gave them instructions on where to meet him to carry out the attack. The trial boiled down to a he said/he said situation, and the jury didn't listen to a celeb on the stand.

You'll recall. Jussie initially claimed that 2 white males jumped him, threw a noose around his neck, and yelled "This is MAGA country" at him.

He greeted the police at his home with the rope still around his neck after he reported the crime. The police came out and said the guy had made the whole thing up.

The 16 charges were dismissed because Jussie forfeited his $10k bond. The special prosecutor only charged Jussie with 6 counts, after much uproar.

Jussie's team argued that the Osundairo brothers were more than just suppliers, and that they were actually drug dealers.

The jury didn't buy Jussie's testimony that there was no hoax. It is not known if he will actually serve any time in prison. He has no criminal record.

He will remain free pending sentencing.

The civil suit that the City of Chicago had against Jussie would be useless if he had to pay back the money.
