Build-A-Bear’s new Matrix Bear probably doesn’t know kung fu

The Bear-trix entered.

The fourth film in the The Matrix series, The Matrix Resurrections, will be released in just a few weeks, and Build-A-Bear has announced its latest movie tie-in: an absolutely incredible-looking Matrix-themed bear.

The green and black fur of Matrix Bear is patterned after the effects of the film "digital rain". The Matrix logo is on one of its feet, and there is an optional "hacker costume" that resembles Neo's garb from the films.

There is an extension. The mall has a build-a-bear workshop.

Morpheus, let me tell you why you are here. You are here because you know something. You feel it, but you can't explain. You have felt that there is something wrong with the world all your life. You don't know what it is, but it's driving you crazy. This feeling has brought you to me. Do you know what I am talking about?

The Bear-trix is called Neo.

Do you want to know what it is?

Yes, Neo.

There are two teddy bears in this scene.

The new Matrix Bear is part of the "The Bear Cave" line of bears and accessories intended for adult fans of stuffed animals. There is still some serious cognitive dissonance in seeing a stuffed animal dressed as Neo from the violent, R-rated films with a Bear-A-Bear workshop heart logo on its paw.

The Matrix costume costs an additional $22 on top of the $29 price for the bear, for a total of $51 for the full set. You won't be able to go into an actual Build-A-Bear workshop and stuff your own Neo-lookalike teddy at your nearest suburban mall because the Matrix Bear is an online exclusive.

It's bad news for anyone hoping to get a Trinity or Morpheus bear from Build-A-Bear that the Neo-style bear is the only one they can get. There is nothing stopping you from getting a few dozen extra bears in a bunch of matching suits to recreate the Neo / Agent Smith clone fight from The Matrix Reloaded in stop-motion with an army of stuffed animals.

In. Neo and Morpheus are talking to teddy bears at the FLUFF ME STATION at the Westchester Mall.

The Bear-trix is everywhere. It is all around us. In this very room, even now. You can see it when you look out the window or on the television. You can feel it when you pay for a toy at the Westchester Mall. It is the world that has made you blind from the truth.

What truth?

Neo, that you are a bear. You were born into being a ball of fluff. You can't see or touch the inside of the prison. A place for your thoughts.

The end of the story.
