Ford stopped taking reservations for the all-electric F-150 Lightning as it prepares to start making and shipping the new pickup truck in the first half of 2022. The company says it has collected 200,000 deposits for the Lightning.
If you are not already in line, you may have to wait a while to get your hands on the electric pickup truck. Ford hasn't said how many it plans to build in 2022, but automotive news reports that the company is looking to build as many as 80,000 in the next few years. The company has hired new workers to handle the demand after saying it wants to build many in the future.
The starting price for the Lightning is $40,000.
Depending on the version people buy, the F-150 can more than double. The base model is supposed to offer around 230 miles of range and has a bare-bones interior with a 12-inch landscape screen. There is an extended range battery option that can push the range to around 300 miles, and the same 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen as the Mach-E. Depending on the configuration, the towing capacity is between 7,700 and 10,000 pounds.

The first trucks are supposed to ship in the summer of 2015, but reservation holders will be able to spec out their Lightnings in January.
Ford will join Rivian and GMC as the only manufacturers with electric pickup trucks if they start shipping on time. Rivian started shipping its R1T pickup in October, while the electric Hummer is supposed to reach customers by the end of the year. The Cybertruck has been pushed to next year, and Musk has said that he won't start making them in large volumes until at least 2023.
