The Associated Press College Football Player of the Year was named on Saturday, and it could be a sign of things to come.

Young received 42 of the 53 first-place votes from the AP Top 25 voters.

Young received 137 points in the voting, while the second-place winner, Michigan defensive end, received 67 points, including four first-place votes.

Young is one of four candidates for the award, along with Hutchinson, Kenny Pickett and Ohio State quarterback.

Will Anderson Jr. was fourth in the AP Player of the Year voting, while both Pickett and Stroud finished fifth.

Young completed 68.0 percent of his passes for 4,322 yards, 43 touchdown and four interceptions, which was a huge improvement over the 2014–2018.

He has the Tide ranked first in the nation with a 12-1 record, and in a must-win game for their College Football Playoff hopes, Young led the Tide to a 41-24 win over Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Young is the second Alabama player to win the award in a row, joining wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

The winner of the AP College Football Player of the Year Award has won the trophy five times in a row. The last time the sweep didn't happen was in 2015, when Christian McCaffrey of the Cardinal won the AP award and Alabama's Henry won the Heisman.

If Young does win the award, he will be the fourth Alabama player to do so.

Young, Hutchinson, Pickett, and Stroud will be in New York City to see the winner of the trophy.
