The company announced today that it will host a live event featuring musicians and creators to look back on the platform's biggest trends and videos of the year. The first chapter of the event will begin at midnight on December 16th. The goal is to liberate the girl from her bedroom and studies.

Escape2021 replaces the high-production recap video that was derided by creators for being too promotional for advertisers. In October, the company pulled the plug on Rewind, saying it would focus on creating different kinds of productions.

The event seems to be an attempt by YouTube to offer more interactive online experiences, like when fans watched butter melt ahead of a new song. There will be real-time live experiences, trend-based challenges, and trivia questions leading up to musical performances. One example of a challenge will require viewers to identify what butter sculptures the band has melted.

The event will feature performances from Doja Cat, Mark Rober, and others.
