On October 29th, James launched her campaign for governor, and positioned herself as the main progressive candidate in the race, in contrast to Kathy Hochul, who was more moderate.

James launched probes against the Trump Organization and former President Donald Trump after she was accused of sexual harassment.

She was the New York attorney general.

There are a number of important investigations and cases that are underway, and I intend to finish the job.

Hochul is the favorite to win the Democratic nomination and win a full term as New York governor next year in the general election, given the state is reliably Democratic. She was well ahead of James and Suozzi in recent polls.

The key background.

James played a major role in Cuomo's downfall that ultimately led to his resignation and Hochul's ascension to the top job in state government. Many of Cuomo's powerful former political allies, like President Joe Biden, called for him to step down after James' office released a report detailing sexual misconduct allegations against Cuomo from 11 different women. Cuomo's administration may have under reported deaths in nursing homes by as much as 50% according to a report in January. Cuomo's representatives slammed the investigations as politically motivated.

There is a structure called the Tangent.

James was the first black woman to win a New York City election. A black woman has never served as a state governor.
