Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: Max Verstappen says he is treated differently to other drivers

One of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen will be crowned world champion this weekend.

Max Verstappen says he is treated differently than other drivers when it comes to fair racing rules.

The stakes are raised at the start of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, where Verstappen and Hamilton will compete to decide the Formula 1 title.

Verstappen said that other drivers do the same things, but only he gets a penalty.

I want it to be fair for everyone. That's not the case.

At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver was given three different penalties for his actions while racing against Hamilton's Mercedes.

One was for forcing Hamilton off the circuit, one was for braking in front of him, and the other was for causing a collision.

The final race of the season is at the Abu Dhabi street circuit and Hamilton and Verstappen are level on points.

If Hamilton and Verstappen finish ahead on Sunday, they will win the title for the first time.

Lewis Hamilton has won one more race than Max Verstappen.

Verstappen said that other drivers in Jeddah had done the same thing and not been punished.

He insisted that he had not broken any rules with regard to fair racing.

Verstappen said that he was not wrong. Other people got nothing.

Both of us were off the track. I don't agree with the other penalty and the fact that they judged it my fault. He only gets a warning for pushing me off the track after he looked at me and pushed me off the edge.

The race director highlighted in his notes that the governing body of F1 has the power to take points off drivers if they break the rules.

These refer to "any violation of the principles of fairness in competition, behaviour in an unsportsmanlike manner or attempt to influence the result of a competition in a way that is contrary to sporting ethics"

This has been seen as a warning to both drivers not to engage in dirty driving in their title fight.

Hamilton said he hoped they wouldn't need to be used and that the race would be great.

Verstappen knows what's in the sporting code. There was nothing added this weekend.

Verstappen said that he wouldn't change his approach to racing this weekend despite being docked points in Jeddah.

I don't think I should change when other people are allowed to race like that. He said that everyone should be allowed to race.

Hamilton said he believed everyone here racing comes to win. I think everyone wants to do it the right way. I don't think about that.

"For me it's clear that what is allowed in side-by-side battling is what the rules say," Hamilton said.

The Saudi Arabia Grand Prix is the third time this season that Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have collided.

Hamilton was asked if he believed Verstappen was crazy, as he had said over the team radio in Jeddah. It is a figure of speech. Racing drivers are crazy to do things and take risks.

He said he was not thinking about breaking the record he shares with Michael Schumacher for world titles.

"It feels like another title for me," Hamilton said. I don't see it as a multiple. Every year you start from zero and are focused on winning. I don't turn up with the number one on my car, I turn up with 44, and I don't consider myself the champion. I think I'm the one fighting for the title.
