The government's new work-from- home guidance has led to a collapse in demand at the busiest time of the year.

The measures designed to slow the spread of the Omicron variant will come in from Monday.

They were called a "body blow" to pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Some pubs could run out of cash without help from the government, according to the boss of the pub chain.

There are no new economic support measures planned by the government.

The City Pub Company, which has 44 sites in England and Wales, is starting to get back on its feet after a rough 18 months.

He said that the government was turning off the life support machine by bringing back home-working.

Office parties started to be canceled because of Omicron. He told the Today programme that going forward after yesterday's announcement would accelerate.
