According to sources, Mike MacIntyre is the new coach of Florida International football.
According to reports, MacIntyre emerged from the search on Wednesday, and an agreement was finalized early Thursday. He takes over from Butch Davis, who went 24-32 at Florida International and 1-11 this season.
The hiring of MacIntyre is expected to be announced later Thursday. MacIntyre was named the national coach of the year in 2016 after leading Colorado to a South Division title and the conference championship game. He was fired after winning five games in a row. MacIntyre went 16-21 at San Jose State and guided to 10 wins. His father, George, was a college coach at the University of Miami.
Scott Carr is the new athletic director at FIU. The school considered Florida A&M coach Willie Simmons and North Carolina special teams coach Jovan Dewitt for the job, according to sources. Tim Harris and Frank Ponce were other candidates.
Florida International was expected to hire MacIntyre according to Underdog Dynasty.
