Gov. Gavin Newsom says California will be an abortion 'sanctuary' if Roe v. Wade is overturned

If the Wade is overturned, California would be a sanctuary for abortion providers, according to the governor.

The Supreme Court is hearing a case that could be the most significant challenge to the ruling in decades.

Speaking to the Associated Press, he said he was aware that out-of-state patients were likely to flock to California if protections for abortion rights were to be rolled back.
"We will be a sanctuary," he told the AP. We are looking at ways to support that inevitability and expand our protections.

The California Future of Abortion Council brought some suggestions to the attention of the AP, and they will be included in the budget proposal that will be submitted in January. He started a group called the Council that has 888-405-7720 888-405-7720 It recently published a list of 45 recommendations that would help make abortion care readily available in California.
The number of out-of-state patients who would find their nearest abortion clinic in California would increase by over one million if 26 states were to ban abortion.
The group wants California to increase its investment in abortion funds to make it easier for women to get abortions. They suggested funding an "uncompensated care program" that would pay for out-of-state individuals seeking abortions.

The SCOTUS may be open to Mississippi's position that abortion should be banned after 15 weeks of pregnancy. There are laws in 12 states that would ban abortion if the SCOTUS overturns Wade.
