Apple Car Project Loses Three Key Engineers

Apple is losing key people who are working on the project as it prepares to release a fully self-driving vehicle. Three engineers have left the company in the last few weeks.

Eric Rogers, Apple's chief engineer for radar systems, left to work for Joby Aviation. Alex Clarabut, an engineering manager for the battery team, and Stephen Spiteri, a hardware engineering manager, joined the company that is developing an air taxi.

Apple Car project lead Doug Field left Apple for Ford after three years of heading up Apple Car development, and earlier this month, Apple Car engineering director Michael Schwekutsch left Apple for Archer Aviation as well.

Apple has lost six members of the project's management team in a row, but it has also brought on important new hires, like the former CEO of Canoo and the one who worked atTesla.

Apple's work on an automated vehicle has been plagued by managerial shifts, changes in focus, and hiring issues. Apple brought on Kevin Lynch to work on the Apple Car, and he is working with John Giannandrea, who is also the head of Artificial Intelligence.

The Apple Car project is moving forward with an ambitious aim of producing an electric vehicle that does not require human intervention, which no other car manufacturer has been able to achieve.

Apple is hoping to have a self-driving car on the road by the year 2025.
