The former CEO's explanations for her company's failure were heard by jurors.

The defence team rested its case in the criminal fraud trial of the Theranos founder.

The firm's technology could detect diseases with a few drops of blood, and Ms.Holmes pleaded not guilty to lying about it.

She is accused of deceiving investors and patients.

Her defence says she was a nave businesswoman.

The jury will begin deliberations later this month.

Ms Holmes admitted to mistakes but insisted that she did not do anything to hurt anyone.

She said "Of course not" when asked by her lawyer if she ever led patients to believe that Theranos could offer health testing.

She replied that she never sought to deceive investors.

The firm was once the start-up darling of Silicon Valley because of its promise to change the healthcare industry. The Wall Street Journal reported in 2016 that Theranos' core blood-testing technology did not work.

The jury must be convinced that Ms.Holmes knew what she was doing.

She conceded that there were errors in the Fortune cover story, which helped lift the young founder to fame. The assistant US Attorney showed Ms.Holmes a line in the story that said the company offered more than 200 diagnostic tests using the Theranos technology.

When asked if she agreed with the statement being incorrect, MsHolmes replied: "I believe that now."

Theranos began using third-party machines for most of its blood tests in the year 2014, according to Ms.Holmes.

She had no explanation for why investors were given a revenue projection of nearly $1 billion in 2015, when internal estimates were much lower. She denied that she lied to potential investors about Theranos.

She said that she didn't think she said that.

The defence team described a worker who poured her life into a product she believed would change lives. The blame was directed towards Mr. Balwani, her former boyfriend and Theranos executive.

Mr Balwani has been accused of emotional and sexual abuse by Ms Holmes. She described an intense relationship in which she was in charge of how she ran Theranos, how she spoke to them, and what she ate.

Their relationship ended around the same time Mr Balwani stepped down as CEO.

The man who has denied allegations of abuse will stand trial next year. If he was called to testify, he would invoke his right to remain silent.

The next Steve Jobs was once seen as the next Ms.Holmes.

Some of her testimony has surprised observers, even though her story is already known to the public.

She testified last week that she was raped while a student. She dropped out of school and focused on her company after the assault.

She said that she decided to build Theranos. I decided to build a life by building this company.

There are 11 counts of wire fraud against Ms.Holmes. The maximum sentence for each count is 20 years in prison.

The jury deliberations are likely to begin on 17 December or 20 December, with closing arguments taking place on 16 December and 17 December.
