The recount affirmed President Joe Biden's win in the state by about 12,000 votes, making Donald Trump the first Republican presidential nominee to lose Georgia since 1992.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said state law required him to announce the election results.
After the election, Trump lashed out at Kemp, and endorsed Perdue, calling him a "very weak Governor." Perdue launched his campaign on Monday and was endorsed by Trump, who called Kemp a "very weak Governor."
Trump said that the liberals and RINOs have run over Kemp. He can't win because the MAGA base will never vote for him.
The key background.
Perdue and Kemp have already taken jabs at each other in what is expected to be a big-spending, no-holds-barred race for the Republican nomination. Perdue said in his video that Kemp failed all of us by not trying to overturn the election results. Perdue is running to "soothe his own bruised ego" after his loss to Ossoff and attacked him for "padding his stock portfolio during a pandemic," according to a Kemp spokesman. The two candidates attacked the other, who is expected to win the Democratic nomination for governor. Kemp narrowly defeated Abrams by a 50%-49% margin.
Kemp has a high approval rating among Republican voters. His popularity increased after he signed the new voting restrictions into law.
What to watch for.
