A video that recently surfaced from December 2020 showing her and other senior staff joking about an alleged Christmas party held at Downing Street during the height of a lockdown has caused Allegra Stratton to resign.

She told reporters that she was giving up her job as Johnson's spokesman for the COP26 climate summit.
She said that she will regret her words for the rest of her life.
She was the prime minister's press secretary when the video was recorded.
In the video, published by ITV News on Tuesday, Stratton is seen at a press conference rehearsal joking with colleagues and trying to answer a mock question about reports of an illegal Christmas party held days earlier.
A source confirmed to the BBC that the party took place on December 18 with several dozen people in attendance, and that the party went on past midnight.
It would have been against the rules of the government to have such a gathering at that time, when tens of millions of people were barred from seeing family for the holidays or even saying goodbye to dying loved ones. The emergence of the video has caused a lot of backlash within the Conservative Party.
Chief critic.
Dr. Saleyha Ahsan of the Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice Group described the revelations as feeling like a bullet to the chest, and said the video brought back memories of her father's death. The members of Johnson's own party described it as "catastrophic" and "astonishing."
What to watch for.
Johnson ordered an inquiry into the incident. The Metropolitan police are considering the footage after receiving complaints from two Labour MPs.
There is a structure called the Tangent.
Before entering politics, Stratton was a journalist. The interview she did for the Newsnight program in 2012 was resurfaced after the video was published. She pressed Thorpe about why she lives in her own house rather than with her mother. The portrayal of me as a benefits scrounger is appalling. A petition she started demanding an apology from the BBC gained over 27,000 signatures.
