Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa is now an official space tourist.
The e-commerce magnate boarded the International Space Station after taking off from our pale blue dot in a Russian Soyuz rocket this morning.
Japan has a man named Bezos.
Maezawa, who made his multi-billion dollar fortune founding and then selling off the Japanese fashion e-retailer Zozotown, took off with his production assistant Yozo Hirano and the Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin.
A Japanese billionaire and art collector is the first space tourist in more than a decade to board the International Space Station, and his 12-day trip is a preview of a planned trip to the Moon by the private space company, SpaceX. He was the first person to buy a trip from the company.
Maezawa and Musk have offered to cover the space travel expenses for eight people.
He was going to star in and produce a reality show about his search for a girlfriend to travel to the Moon with him, but he canceled it because of the cringe factor.
Maezawa told reporters that he had never thought he would be able to achieve his dream, and that he felt like an elementary school student about to go on an outing.
He is just as excited to be in space as he was to take off.
This billionaire is going to leave our planet.
