LSU was prepared to go all out to get Jimbo Fisher back to Baton Rouge.

The Texas A&M head coach was offered an eight-year, $125 million contract by the university. It would've been the biggest deal signed during the college football coaching carousel.

Fisher was a natural choice to succeed Ed Orgeron, as he was LSU's offensive coordinator from 2000 to 2006 and won a national championship at Florida State in 2013).

Lincoln Riley denied any interest in coaching the Tigers but didn't specify he was returning to Oklahoma. He left for USC.

Fisher was more upset about wanting to stay at A&M than about the LSU job.

He told reporters in November that he was going to recruit an unbelievable class. I'm the dumbest human on the planet to recruit these guys to A&M so I can play against them in college.

LSU fans might feel that the Tigers dodged a bullet because Scott Woodward was open to paying, but Fisher's championship pedigree sets him apart from many of his peers.

Texas A&M hasn't won more than nine games since Fisher arrived, and that streak will continue into 2021.

Texas A&M was hoping to get a little more from Fisher, and it ended the year with losses.

It's difficult to justify paying $13 million a year to Fisher.

LSU's Brian Kelly era isn't off to a great start.

Kelly's resume is similar to Fisher's, but he didn't win a national title at Notre Dame.

Paying Kelly $100 million over 10 years is riskier than going higher for Fisher's services.
