The committee investigating the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot plans to recommend contempt of Congress charges against former White House chief of staff MarkMeadows, making him the third Trump Administration official the committee's taken action against for failing to comply with its investigation into the storming.

George Terwilliger informed the committee Tuesday that he would no longer cooperate with its investigation, even though he was scheduled to appear for a deposition Wednesday.
Bennie Thompson denied that the committee was seeking information that should be protected by executive privilege.
Thompson wrote to Terwilliger saying that Meadows could have chosen to not answer questions during his deposition, though neither he nor his legal counsel have identified what should be protected by executive privilege.
An email discussing the appointment of an alternate slate of electors was one of the documents that Meadows provided to the committee before reversing course on Tuesday.
