It also points to a shift in Musk's thinking on drugs, which he seemed to endorse as recently as a few months ago.

Musk told an interviewer at the CodeCon tech conference that he thinks people should be open to taking hallucinogens.

He told Levy that he thought people should be open to the idea of using drugs.

Musk said that he expects more and more drugs to become legal in the future.

He said that as the new generation gets into political power, they will see more receptivity to the benefits of psychedelics.

This was not Musk's first trip down the ego death lane.

The CEO of the two companies has talked about and used mind-altering substance in headline-grabbing ways for years, from reports that the board of the company was concerned about his use of the drug Ambien.

He doesn't get into all the times he's explicitly or obliquely about drugs, even though he joked about the stock price of the company reaching $420 and Azealia Banks' song "Scenario"
