Bueckers will be out of action for six to eight weeks with a fractured left knee.

The reigning Player of the Year had an injury that was discovered on Monday. Bueckers collapsed while dribbling the ball up the floor with 40 seconds left in the game. Two teammates carried her off the floor.

"Obviously, we're all very sad for her and that she suffered this injury," Auriemma said. It would be hard to describe how much basketball means to her. It's difficult for her to not be able to do the things that she loves to do.

I'm not interested in how fast we can get someone back, I'm interested in what's best for them long term, that's what I've learned from the past injuries." What's best for her career is the priority. Everyone involved with the program will be with her.

Bueckers, who underwent right ankle surgery in April, leads the team in points, assists, steals, and minutes. She was named the player of the year as a freshman.

Bueckers' return is expected in mid- to late-January, ahead of the second game of the season against South Carolina.

In the first month of the season, the depth that looked like a strength has dwindled. Freshman Azzi Fudd is also out with a foot injury. She will be reexamined next week. There is no timetable on the return of junior Aubrey Griffin, who has ankle and back injuries.

Georgia Tech is the opponent for the University of Connecticut on Thursday. On Saturday it will play UCLA and on December 19 it will play Louisville. After a 10-day break, the Big East will have seven games for the Huskies.
