Ryan Lowe: Preston appoint Plymouth manager, Steven Schumacher takes over at Argyle

Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher worked together.

Ryan Lowe has been named as the new manager of the North End.

The 43-year-old resigned from League One Argyle on Tuesday after two and a half years in charge.

Lowe takes over at Deepdale, which is 18th in the table.

Lowe was replaced by his assistant Steven Schumacher, who had guided the two sides to League Two promotion.

Lowe's first game in charge will be against Barnsley on Saturday.

"We would like to thank the Argyle for their professional way in which they have dealt with this matter," the statement said.

Lowe's release clause was activated by the Northants club after he expressed a desire to leave Home Park.

He left the Pilgrims fourth in League One and his final game was an FA Cup second-round victory at Rochdale.

Andrew Parkinson said that they wish Ryan all the best for the future and thanked him for his achievements as manager.

The job will be his first as a manager for the ex-Bradford and Bury player.

"For as long as I've known him, Steven's dedication to becoming the best coach he can be has been there for all to see, and I firmly believe the time is right for him to step into management," said Neil Dewsnip.

The analysis was done.

Ryan Lowe's decision to leave Argyle will be a shock to many fans, as he has talked about being part of Simon Hallett's project to build a sustainable Championship club at Home Park.

It makes sense that he should take the opportunity when it arises close to home because of his family ties to the North West.

His success in taking the Pilgrims from League Two to the top of League One in a division with more resources will attract interest from a number of clubs.

Steven Schumacher has never been a number one before, but he has a squad that he helped build and a style of football that is pleasing on the eye and successful.

It will be interesting to see who he brings in to support him and whether the club can hold on to key players in January.
