Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos tracks from Amazon Music are now supported by the company. Amazon Music subscribers will see new badges on the Now Playing screen that clearly identify the quality of their music after they download the latest system update for their speakers. Amazon Music has supported CD-quality HD tracks, as well as other services.

The badges will show either HD or Ultra HD. The maximum sample rate for music is 48kHz.

The company has put together a comprehensive guide to understanding high-resolution audio, saying that some aspects of it are not clearly defined. As the industry has evolved, streaming services are applying their own terms to brand their higher-resolution tiers. It is quite good if you are new to streaming.

Only the Arc and second-gen Beam have the ability to play Dolby Atmos music. Ultra HD tracks can be played on a wide range of devices.

In its explainer, the company hints that it plans to enable hi-res audio for other streaming services, such as Apple Music. I will point out that the HiFi tier has yet to launch after it was announced nearly 10 months ago. I suppose there is still time for the company to fulfill its promise.
