The world's most powerful women are getting richer. The number of billionaires on the World's 100 Most Powerful Women List has increased. The list members are worth a collective $167.1 billion and are $16.7 billion wealthier than last year.
The net worths of these 14 women ranged from $1.7 billion to $57 billion and they all created significant change in the world. The richest woman on the list is MacKenzie Scott, the philanthropist and ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Forbes estimates that Fidelity Investments CEO is worth less than half of that amount. Oprah Winfrey and Safra Catz are billionaires because they both started companies and rose through the ranks of their industries. Laurene Powell Jobs, founder and president of the Emerson Collective, and her husband Scott, both prolific philanthropists, inherited wealth through their families.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has a woman who is ranked the No. 5 most powerful woman of the 21st century. French Gates was named a billionaire by Forbes in May, following her divorce from Bill Gates, who was the fourth richest person in the world. French Gates has helped steer more than $60 billion in grants toward the foundation's goals of combatting poverty, disease, since he was co-chair of the charitable foundation in 2000. She runs an investment and incubation firm that focuses on funding female-founded companies and other marginalized groups.
The singer became a billionaire earlier this year. The world's richest female musician is behind her three-comma fortune and status because of her businesses. In August, Forbes revealed that she was a billionaire thanks to the success of her beauty line, which she launched in a partnership with French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH. Forbes conservatively estimates that the company's value has increased to $2.8 billion as of August, due to its inclusive mission and focus on diversity. The singer's net worth increased in February when the company he is a part of raised $115 million in funding.
Falguni Nayar is the founder and CEO of cosmetics and fashion retailer Nykaa. A former investment banker and managing director of banking and finance giant Kotak Mahindra Group, Nayar used $2 million of her own money to launch her own beauty brand in India. In fiscal 2021, Nayar oversaw the IPO of FSN E-Commerce Ventures, which was then profitable. The debut of Nykaa made Nayar the first woman to take an Indian unicorn public. She is the most powerful woman on the planet, and is currently worth $7 billion.
