Florida State won its third women's national championship in program history and second in the last four years on Monday night, when Yujie Zhao scored the game-winning penalty kick.

"I had faith that we were going to win the game," he said. I was happy.

Last year's national championship game was decided in penalty kicks, and the FSU goalkeeper made two saves.

Florida State coach Mark Krikorian said it was nice to be sitting on the other side. I thought we were good last year and had some unfinished business.

In their 12th College Cup and sixth national championship game, the FSU's were playing. They've won three times.

Last year, it didn't go our way and everyone was behind me, so I knew whatever happened this year, they were going to be behind me. It does feel better here, I'm not going to lie.

In the first meeting between the schools, neither team could break through.

In the first overtime, the Cougars created a dangerous opportunity off a corner kick, but Roque came up with one of her four saves.

Florida State had the best chance of the second overtime when Nighswonger bent a shot from just outside the box, but Smith smothered it for one of her two saves.

"I'm really proud of our players and our team," the coach said. I thought we fought hard. We were close a few times.

The College Cup team outshot Florida State 10-8 through regulation and the two overtime periods. In their 12th College Cup and sixth national championship game, the FSU's were playing.

Krikorian said that he was proud of the group and that he thought that BYU gave them everything they could handle.

The play that resulted in the back of the net being ruled out was in the eighth minute and the Cougars appeared to have taken an early lead.

Tucker said that he didn't know that it was illegal until he saw the flag being held up. I wish I wouldn't have been on the field.

Mikayla Colohan was carried off the field in the 32nd minute with an apparent ankle injury after colliding with Florida State's Jaelin Howell.

Colohan, who led the team with 18 goals and 15 assists, was able to return in the second half and pick up a yellow card in the 78th minute.

She said that she didn't want to go out that way, but she stood up and she was able to return. I was able to finish the game because my leg felt good.
