The Green Bay Packers have placed backup quarterback Jordan Love on the reserve/COVID-19 list, meaning he will not be on the field for the team's game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.

The Packers only have Rodgers and Love on their depth chart at quarterback, so it makes sense for Bortles to return to the roster.
Kurt Benkert would move up to the backup quarterback spot if Bortles wasn't available. The Packers are thin at the position, with Rodgers recovering from a fractured toe.

Good thing Kurt Benkert is back.

Benkert has never played in an NFL game.
Love was a surprise first-round selection by the Packers in the 2020 draft. He made one start for the team this year and was 19-of-34 for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Rodgers was using the team's bye last week to heal his toe injury, and he made it clear that he plans to play.
He said on the Pat McAfee Show that he would keep getting treatment. We're hoping to avoid surgery, but the surgery would be a small one and I wouldn't have to miss any time with it. I'm not going to miss any time because it's necessary for any surgery that I have at this point. We will make a decision early next week. I could have surgery on Monday or Tuesday and play on Sunday.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that he doesn't believe Rodgers will have surgery.
He said that he didn't know if Rodgers was going to have surgery. "I don't think so."

He said that he knew that he was getting treatment and doing everything he could to be 100 percent. I think it's a process and we'll see where he is this week. We have a lot of confidence in his ability to play at a high level if we can get him out there at practice.
