33 million people worldwide use the popular family safety app, Life360, and it's marketed as a great way for parents to keep track of their children's movements. The app is selling data on kids' and families' whereabouts to a number of data brokers who have sold it to anyone who wants it. The app acts as a firehose of data for a controversial industry that has operated in the shadows with few, according to the report. The former employees spoke with The Markup on the condition that they don't use their names, as they are still employed in the data industry. They said they agreed to talk because they wanted to shed more light on the location data economy. They all said that Life360 is one of the largest sources of data.
