The sixth and final season of The Expanse will premiere a few days from now. The new season is only going to be six episodes, so you have to be prepared, beltalowda! Fans can take a crash course on where things stand.
What happened in the fifth season of The Expanse?
A lot. A lot. Various storylines separated the Rocinante crew. Naomi Nagata had a heartbreaking reunion with her long- lost son, as James Holden tried to find the last sample of the alien Protomolecule. Marco's plan for galactic domination got in the way of Captain Camina Drummer and her family. Amos Burton was going to check in on Clarissa "Peaches" Mao when he went to visit his old home in Baltimore.
The Luna-based Earth diplomat Chrisjen Aghdashloo, along with his colleauges, headed out to investigate deals involving Martian weapons and Marco's Free Navy. The Ring Gates to other solar systems, the destructive and fascinating Protomolecule, and the ancient entities connected to the Protomolecule seem to be worrisomely ready to come back into existence.

What happened at the end of The Expanse?
Naomi was able to escape from Marco thanks to her bravery and survival instincts, and she was able to hang on until help arrived. She had mixed feelings about leaving an obstinate father behind. Alex did not survive the rescue mission, which was sad for the Roci crew. Drummer decided not to destroy the Rocinante after being strong-armed into fighting. The last straw for some of her beloved family members was when Marco hit one of the crew members.
After escaping from post- apocalyptic Earth, Amos returned to the Rocinante with a new crew member in the form of a woman who tried to kill him back in season three. The reception on Luna attended by Bobbie, Naomi, and Holden was hosted by one of the few Earth leaders left standing, and they are now stronger than ever. Avasarala told her guests that Marco Inaros hates this. This is how we win.
Marco is determined to be the guy who puts the Belt on top, and he is as determined to keep his iron grip on Filip as he is to be the one who does it. The UN ship was destroyed at the Ring by missiles that came from inside. One of the vessels involved in Marco's secret dealings with Mars is at the Ring. Marco took Mars through the Ring despite the events of season four because he might have known something we don't.
The last few minutes of the finale really set up season six. The MCRN admiral took a video call from Marco. As they talked, Sauveterre mentioned a major Expanse book character as well as the mine field on our side of the Ring, which is now active to prevent any unauthorized transits in the future. Laconia is a key location in the books. Then, in came another video message from a scientist. He reported a beautiful result after receiving the Protomolecule on Laconia, where we can see Ilus-like structures behind him and in the sky above. The Barkeith passed through the Ring, and there were mysterious entities that wiped out the builders. They are the reason the Barkeith suddenly fell apart.
What will happen in season six of The Expanse?
With the shortened season, expect lots of action and rapid-fire plot maneuvers to get to a conclusion. We are going to learn more about Laconia, Duarte, and whatever use the Protomolecule has in store, though humans have had a hard time controlling it. The Rocinante crew will be back together this season, minus Alex, and they will be working with Avasarala to address the Marco Inaros problem. Space battles will be a major component of the season according to the trailers. Naomi is haunted by her encounter with her son and her toxic ex, and Drummer has a lot of pieces to put back together after going against Marco and losing so much of her family. Marco will continue his quest to control the galaxy while trying to control his son. Again, it is a lot. A lot. It will be contained within six episodes. The Expanse has pulled off miracles before, so we have high hopes the show will do it again.
The Expanse is on Amazon Prime. New episodes will arrive on Fridays until the season finale on January 14.
