Johnny Rodgers, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, was in an Omaha hospital intensive care unit Monday.
Denny Drake told the World-Herald that the Cornhuskers football great was hospitalized on Thanksgiving morning with a virus. After a few days in the hospital, Rodgers seemed to improve, according to Drake. He was placed in the intensive care unit last week after taking a turn for the worse.
Drake said that Rodgers is feeling much better.
Drake told the World-Herald that he was weak until late yesterday. His voice sounded good when he called me this morning.
The AP left a text message for Rodgers.
Rodgers, who was nicknamed "The Jet", won the Heisman as a senior at Nebraska in 1972 and played on the school's national championship teams. He scored a touchdown on a punt return against Oklahoma in 1971. He was a consensus All-American his last two seasons. He was a first-round draft pick of the NFL in 1973, but spent most of his career in Canada.
