Trump-Chosen Perdue Enters Georgia Race—And The War Of Words Begins

The first ballots won't be cast for months, but shots have already been fired in what's widely expected to be a scorched-earth war of words between Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and former U.S. Sen.

Perdue, who served a term in the Senate from 2015-2021, announced his candidacy in a video Monday, saying Kemp "has failed all of us and cannot win in November."

Perdue claimed that Kemp cost him his Senate seat since the governor "caved" by not buying into Trump's claims that Georgia elections are rife with widespread fraud that favors Democrats.

Perdue said that he was running to "soothe his own bruised ego" after Kemp's spokesman said that Perdue was only running to "soothe his own bruised ego".

Perdue was found to be the most active trader in the Senate, despite a New York Times report of a federal investigation into alleged insider trading that didn't result in charges.

Perdue said that she will lie and cheat to become governor and transform the state to favor the "woke left."

The GOP primary is on May 24.

Perdue said that if Kemp had fought Abrams first, it would be different today. Wouldn't our governor have fought for us already?

Georgia became the focal point for Trump's false claims of widespread election fraud after the 2020 presidential election, but top Republican officials, including Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, repeatedly said there was no evidence to back up the president's claims. Georgia was one of the states that Trump lost in the 2016 election, making him the first Republican to not carry the state since 1992. After the election, Trump told the secretary of state to "just find" the nearly 12,000 votes needed to overturn the state's results. Trump is being investigated for election interference over the call. Perdue and fellow incumbent Republican Kelly loeffler are both up for reelection in early January, and Trump's fraud claims came ahead of them. The Democrats won both of the Senate seats that they had to take to win the majority in the Senate as a whole. Republican strategists blamed Trump for the losses.

What to watch for.

Kemp and Perdue are expected to attack each other. In the governor's race, Kemp narrowly lost toAbrams by a 50%-49% margin, but she went on to become a major national figure in the Democratic party through being a vocal voting rights activist.

There was aContra.

Kemp has a high approval rating among Georgia Republicans since he signed strict new election restrictions into law. A recent Morning Consult poll found he had a 74% approval rating among GOP voters, with the poll coming shortly after Kemp signed the new voting restrictions into law.

Perdue is planning to enter the Georgia Governor race.

The criminal inquiry into Trump's Georgia election interference gathers steam.
