Quinn Ewers – the finesse king

Depending on your sports knowledge, hearing the name is either a good thing or a bad thing.

The name of the former Ohio State quarterback is back in the news after announcing that he is leaving the school to enter the transfer portal. A few months ago, Ewers made national news when he skipped his senior year of high school to enroll early at Ohio State so that he could take advantage of the NIL money. He has made over $1 million.

He told Yahoo Sports in July that he would be able to make money off the deals if he enrolls at Ohio State. I may be able to win a state title if I stay and don't get paid.

Even though he was the state's biggest recruit, Ewers was not allowed to profit from the NIL because it was run by a bunch of unintelligent Republicans.

Since the system wanted Ewers to leave over $1 million on the table, he was able to graduate early and enroll at Ohio State in a redshirt season that put a lot of money in his pocket. After only taking two snaps all season, Ewers is back on the market, and it is expected he will wind up on a roster in Texas next season a lot richer than when he left.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day said he was off guard by Ewers decision.

Did it really happen?

A fourth-string freshman quarterback leaving after a season in which he was only on the field for two plays is not surprising. This is the first time that has happened to a guy with seven figures in his bank account.

We wish him nothing but the best of luck moving forward, and I think he was in a very unique situation for sure. There is a lot going on in college football, whether it is early enrollee or transfer portal, and that is something that is happening right now. We are going to try to adapt as time goes on.

The way the game used to be played is no longer working and coaches like Day are getting lost in the shuffle. In August, Richard Justice of Texas Monthly wrote a piece about what led to Ewers' decision, and how it all fell at the feet of the adults in control down in Texas. The Ewers are not broke as their father works in the oil and gas business in Texas.

We do not need the money. It is the principle, according to Quinn earlier this year.

Sometimes it is not about needing something, but about someone trying to deny you of something that is rightfully yours. This was not about the money for Ewers. For the first time, a college athlete was able to beat the system at a game that was set up for them to always lose.
