The Miami football team has a new head coach, the school announced Monday.

The president of the University of Miami said that they were grateful for the many contributions that Coach Diaz made to the campus community and to his native South Florida. We wish him and his family the best.

The Hurricanes had a 21-15 record in the third season of the leader. The squad will play Washington State in the Sun Bowl on December 31st.

According to Chris Low and Adam Rittenberg, the University of Miami has had "extensive discussions" with the Oregon coach about taking over. He was an assistant coach at Miami before he became a player.
The past five seasons with Oregon, Cristobal has a 35-13 record, including a Rose Bowl win.

The past two years have seen the loss in the Cheez-It Bowl and Independence Bowl, as well as the inability of Diaz to reach that level in his three seasons.

The Hurricanes reached the Top 10 of the AP poll in 2020 after an 8-1 start to the season, but consecutive losses to end the campaign ruined the earlier excitement. The preseason expectations for the year were not met with a 2-4 start to the year.

The program has only one 10-win season in the last 18 years, but it has five national titles in its history. The team has not won a bowl game since the 2016 Russell Athletic Bowl.

The administration is looking for a person who can help return the Hurricanes to their former glory.
