Warner Bros. Pictures has cast star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the lead role in the Lana Wachowski-directed movie, according to reports. Abdul-Mateen will be playing a secret role many speculate to be the son or younger version of Lawrence Fishburn's Morpheus. The director reportedly met with Abdul-Mateen, Keanu Reeves, and Carrie-Anne Moss in secret, and following the meeting days later it would appear Abdul-Mateen has emerged as the frontrunner for the role.

Reeves and Moss will reprise their role as Neo and Trinity, respectively, with Wachowski Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell as screenwriters. Although plot details are currently unknown, a fourth installment of the franchise has been in the works for some time now, with Michael B. Jordan originally attached to the film. The film is now in production with the name "Project Ice Cream" and is expected to arrive sometime in 2020.

In other entertainment news, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is also attached to Jordan Peele's upcoming Candyman reboot.
