Agency highlights lack of sector support with high street protest

A travel agency in north London protested about the lack of financial support for the travel industry over the weekend with the help of fellow local businesses.

If the government doesn't give specific support for the sector, the shop at Authentic Villa Holidays will be closed in the new year.

The shop will be closing in the new year due to the lack of government support for the travel industry and the nearly two years of Covid-19 government restrictions on international travel.

The Additional Restrictions Grants (ARG) scheme has been offered by the government to high street businesses affected by Covid.

Abta pointed out that the government has recommended that local councils consider travel businesses when distributing grants because they have faced extra restrictions.

The association last week urged travel companies to engage with local authorities in England over ARG grants due to the further restrictions imposed on international travel as a result of the Omicron variant and produced a template letter for firms to use when making their case.

The window at Authentic Villa Holidays offers a sensible solution to international travel and a link to the agency's Freedom to Travel campaign, open to both industry professionals and the public.

The villa specialist website says that they have experienced nearly two years of non-stop international travel interruption, knee-jerk reaction, rip-off testing, a traffic light system that can place a country on a red list in a matter of hours, and thousands of innocent travellers stuck in resort.

It will not end until the people step in.
