He wants to play his part in rebuilding the club after 15 years at Yorkshire.

He said that he had followed how the club handled the racism allegations.

After retiring from his job as a radio host on Talksport, he will start his new role immediately, but he will no longer be presenting on the station.

He made his debut for Yorkshire in 1989 and was part of the squad that won the 2001 County Championship, which was the first victory in 33 years.

He left to join Essex in 2004 and returned to Yorkshire as captain in 2007.

In 58 matches, he took 229 of the 229 he was given, an average of 28.39 per match.

He played 159 one-day internationals for England, taking 235 one-dayers at an average of 26.42.
